Below is the list of courses offered at the Institute of Tax Administration (ITA).
The Institute’s programs offer a unique blend of theoretical classroom training and real life customs and taxation experiences. ITA programs are designed to address the competence needs of customs and tax practitioners at different stages of their careers. ITA has well qualified staff and adequate facilities to support its core functions of training, research and consultancy in the areas of taxation, customs and related fields.

- Ordinary Diploma in Customs and Tax Management
- Bachelor Degree in Customs and Tax Management
- Postgraduate Diploma in Customs and Taxation
- Master of Arts in Revenue Law and Administration
Academic Departments and units
Postgraduate Studies Department
The postgraduate studies department is charged with the supervision of all postgraduate programs. Currently there are four programs which are administered by this department namely:
- Collaborative Master of Arts in Revenue Law and Administration (MA.RLA)
- Postgraduate Diploma in Taxation (PGDT)
- East African Postgraduate Diploma in Customs Management (PDCM)
- East African Postgraduate Certificate in Customs Management (PGCCM)
Examinations and Curricular Affairs Department
The examination and curricular affairs department is charged with the responsibility of administering all examinations of the institute of Tax Administration. It is also charged with the administration of other curricular affairs such as curricular development.
Department for Customs and Tax Studies
The customs and tax studies department is charged with the supervision of all undergraduate and non-degree programs. This department has been accredited by the National Council of Technical Education and Training (NACTE) to conduct computed based programs up to NTA 8. Currently there are four programs which are administered by this department namely:
- Bachelors Degree in Customs and Tax Management (BCTM)
- Diploma in Customs and Tax Management (DCTM)
- Basic Certificate in Customs and Tax Management (CCTM)
- East African Customs and Freight Clearing and Forwarding Practising Certificate (CFFPC)
Department for Short Courses
The short Courses department is charged with the responsibility of administering closed programs. Closed programs are program which are not open to the general public. Rather, they are open to the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), Zanzibar Revenue Board (ZRB) and some other key stakeholders which may be invited by the TRA Commissioner General. Currently, the department offers the following examinable programs:
- Taxation Basic Course (TBC)
- Customs Basic Course (CBC)
- Total Tax Person (TTP)
- In addition, the department administers non-examinable short course as stipulated in the ITA short Course Calendar.
Research and Consultancy Unit
The institute is well established with a designated unit dealing with research and consultancy activities. The institute has carried out a number of consultancy activities both inside and outside the country in the areas of local revenue collection and mobilization, taxation policy, capacity building of revenue collection staff, property taxation, taxation of multinational enterprises and development revenue collection and accounting systems.
ITA Library
Professional library services are available on campus whereby a dedicated and qualified team of librarians offer services seven days a week at designed times. The Institute’s Library has a capacity of up to 30 readers at a time and has over 670 titles in over 3,298 volumes, the majority of them being customs/tax titles or those directly related to these fields. Borrowing library materials is limited to registered users only although use of library materials within the Library does not require registration. Library users can also surf the internet free of charge for online information resources.
Application Fee
For all programmes, a non-refundable application fee is payable at the rate of Tanzania shillings (Tshs) 30,000 for CFFPC and postgraduate programmes by applicants who are Tanzanians and all other programmes the application fee is Tsh. 10,000. For non-East African applicants, the application fee amounts to US$ 30 for all programmes.
