In celebration of Africa Standards Day 2022, the Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) has organized various activities including Essay Writing for Higher Education students, educating local government officials (PMO-RALG) on Standards.

He said this today the Acting Director General of the Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS), Engineer Johannes Maganga at the launch of the Essay Writing Competition for Higher Education students in the run-up to the Africa 2022 Standards Day.

He said every year the African Bureau of Standards (ARSO) approves essay content and invites Standards Agencies in Africa to organize an essay competition for universities at the national level. The winning winners will compete at the African level.

“The Standards Agency co-ordinates this exercise at the national level which involves announcing students’ participation, receiving essays from participants and presenting essay winners.” Engineer Maganga.

He added that the ARSO essay writing competition aims to enable young Africans to understand the importance of standards in facilitating sustainable development in Africa.

On other side, the Acting Director of Standards Preparation TBS, Hamisi Mwanasala said this year’s slogan directs us to reflect on the contribution of standards in developing the industrial economy especially in the pharmaceutical and medical equipment sector against the Covid-19 epidemic which has been a threat to the countries of Africa and the World as a whole as well as other possible outbreaks of disease.

Acting Standards Manager Nasra Hussein said students are the main stakeholders of the Standards so it is only an opportunity to use them as ambassadors through the essays they will write to explain the benefits of standards at the economic, social and environmental levels.
